QR Coupon Codes and Promotions

This is my favorite part about QR codes - the coupons! A lot of businesses have made it super convenient for people to save money with QR codes. Next time you are at the mall, make sure you have your phone out. You can scan these codes almost everywhere. A lot of malls have their own customized QR code that you can scan to learn more information about the mall, which is really helpful for finding stores. These are often located at the entrances. Real estate agents are also staring to use these codes for their contact information as well as linking to their real estate websites. Almost anyone in any business can create one of these codes to link to promotions and coupons.  Restaurants are also starting to make their own QR codes. Here's a neat video I found on YouTube that shows some ways that restaurants can use QR codes: QR Codes for Restaurants

Here's an example of an iPhone reading a QR coupon code: http://r-rwebdesign.com/blog/?p=1131

Companies are also making their own unique QR codes to give details about their business, to give discounts, or just to give you more information about their product. Macy's recently came out with their QR code, which is of course integrated into their iconic Macy's star. Check it out here.

There's a great video on QR coupon codes on this website: http://2d-code.co.uk/jcpenney-qr-code/ . Fox news shows a guy shopping at JcPenney's and bringing up a QR code on his phone that is then scanned at the register to allow his to receive a discount. Looks like JcPenney's followed suit with Macy's. I'm sure many other clothing and retail stores will have their own code made so people can easily bring digital coupons to the register and save money.

Subway has a current promotion that involves QR codes. There's more information on it here: http://adventure.subway.com/mobilepages/faqs.htm#QRanchor . It sounds like you get a QR code when you make a purchase, and you can scan it to see if you have won prizes or free food. Maybe McDonalds will have a QR code Monopoly promotion next year. Saving QR codes in your phone would be much easier than holding onto those little game pieces.

What is a QR Code?

QR (quick response) codes were invented to be scanned and decoded very quickly. I've only first seen them showing up mid-2011, but they've actually been around for much longer.
